Topics include updates, guidance, and instructions on CARES Act Funding for Local Governments, including water utility assistance, first responders hazard pay premiums, and public safety and public health payroll expenditures.

Join us for a discussion on the future of public safety. Recent events and protests have ignited discussions across the country on how local communities can rethink how they invest in public safety and re-imagine our perspective on what makes a “safe community.” Detroit Action’s Executive Director, Branden Snyder, unpacks the history and context of the movement to #DefundthePolice and discusses what alternative safety models are available for local governments. Also, learn how the City of Flint has taken steps to implement a Black Lives Matter citizen-led police review board and resolutions to prohibit biased crime reporting and to recognize racism as a public health crisis.

The RELIEF for Main Street Act would build on what is already working across the country. The legislation creates a new $50 billion fund that would provide direct allocations to cities, counties and states to seed and scale small business local relief funds. The funds would provide funding to small  businesses with fewer than 20 employees, minority-owned businesses, small businesses in  low-income and rural communities, businesses outside the mainstream banking system, and tribal businesses. Hear from U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee (MI-5); and U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (MI-6), co -sponsors of this bill, on the benefits it would have on main streets across Michigan.
